Portfolio: The Spiveys Band

I was hired by The Spiveys, a band from Charlotte, NC for this job. The guys have been around for over a year now and are really gaining popularity in the area.

Overall the design they desired was a style leaning toward a rock/grunge/disorderly theme, but ultimately didn't really care as long as it turned out alright. They required integration with ReverbNation, a band management website for shows, music, etc. Integration allowed for them to only have to update one website, and it will automatically update on the others that they have linked. There's also Facebook integration thrown in for up to the minute updates from the band. The website itself makes use of some custom transitions, and loading between pages (as well as downgrades to a more usable version if the browser doesn't support scripts). The site also makes use of a custom YouTube player to show their videos.

The guys were a blast to work with, and their music is great as well. I recommend checking them out. Thanks for the opportunity!

Portfolio: Pottery-101

Located in the heart of downtown Salisbury, NC is a pretty popular pottery store. I'm a friend of the family who owns the store, and was approached by the owner to build their official website.

What was desired overall was a focus on simplicity, the store's logo, and the ability to update the website themselves after I was finished. I was shown a couple of websites that had desirable layouts and overall themes, and was able to work from there. The outcome was a design with very earthy tones, which fit in nicely with being a pottery store. The lighter color is also similar to the color of the walls within the store.

On a more technical side, the blogging software Wordpress was used in order to provide page management for the website. It allows them to post events on a custom-coded events listing as well as update the other individual pages. The artists page is generated by the Wordpress software as well, which makes adding pictures in extremely easy.

After everything was finished, I wrote up detailed documentation on how to go about modifying the content on the website, and delivered it to them. They haven't had a single problem yet (knock on wood). It was wonderful working with Pottery 101, and if you ever find yourself in Salisbury, I invite you stop by the store!

Portfolio: Bad Dogs Pub

I approached a local UNC-Charlotte university area bar after noticing their growing popularity and lack of a website to promote their truly amazing food and drink specials. Having just changed management, the previous manager left with the website and original domain name. This was easily fixed with a few suggestions from myself.

After meeting with the owner, manager, and a few employees, I was able to get a good idea of what they needed. In terms of usability, they just wanted something simple with their address, directions, menu, some information about them, and specials. In addition to this, all of it could be updated by the staff themselves. Most of the updating would be done to the specials, which change regularly. In addition to this they needed a simple way to upload a new food menu whenever it was required.

With some editing software integration, these tasks were easily accomplished. As for the design, I gave them a couple of options to look at, and one caught their eye.

Glad to have the opportunity to get to know everyone at Bad Dogs Pub, and I continue to help them out with the website as needed. Currently the website is racking up over 1,500 visits a month!

Portfolio: Eastfield Bar & Grill

Eastfield Bar & Grill is the sister bar/restaurant of Bad Dogs Pub (the previous slide). The owners liked what I did so much for Bad Dogs that they wanted me to use the same design (updating the color scheme) on their site. Everything else stayed the same, easy to update content, menus, and specials.

Portfolio: e Skills Learning

This website is one of the larger jobs I've taken on. e Skills Learning provides digital learning games for children and schools on the iPod/iPad and on Android operating systems. An up and coming company when they found me, they've really created a large amount of games since I've finished with the site. Through the use of the detailed documentation I created and frequent no cost email support, the site has been able to grow with them without any issues.

Practically everything you can see on the website is edited, created, and managed by them through the use of easy-to-use editing software that resembles Microsoft Word. This includes image uploading as well as new page creation whenever a new learning application is completed.

It's been great working with e Skills Learning, and I am currently building an add-on to the website for them which resembles a customer support blog and forum.
